Testimonial 01 - Heloisa Righetto

I've recently spent a weekend in Manchester as part of the #WorkerBeeWeekender, organised by Visit Britain and Visit Manchester. As soon as I received the schedule of activities, I got a message on Instagram from Tori. As one of the locals also taking part in this project, she took her time to drop me (and I believe all the other participants that were not from Manchester!) a line to say hello and to say she was looking forward to meet me. I felt welcome and befriended immediately, and when we crossed paths during the weekend (several times), she constantly made sure I was enjoying my time in Manchester. Moreover, I loved receiving her comments on my photos, and I was really impressed that she took her time to write proper, real comments. Tori is a great communicator and there is not another person I would ask for Manchester tips!

The #workerbeeweekender was my first ever trip to Manchester. I really enjoyed your instawalk and you could just tell how passionate (as well as extremely knowledgeable) you are about the city!

From a professional point of view, working in an extremely fast paced team for Visit London, having a city expert with that kind of enthusiasm and knowledge is just invaluable for any team. I'm sure you'd build a great network within any comms role!

As lucky as we are to live in an age where technology connects us to people in other countries in seconds, we still need that bridge, that connection. Someone whose words and voice bring people together. Tori is THAT person. Although we've never met in person, I've watched as she unifies people, starts the conversation, creates that space that makes you think, why not be involved? Interested, interesting and a fabulous wordsmith to boot, Tori would be a valuable asset to any team.

I'm from Venezuela. I started following you for the amazing pictures honestly, they are quite beautiful and everyone enjoys a nice view even of simple things like a road or the front of an ancient house which some people might not notice, but once you capture it, and caption it, becomes amazing and start wishing you could see the whole world in that way, which I suppose is the way you see it, not everyone can do such thing and I want to thank you for sharing it with us.

When we (people from this side) head about the UK or just England, we automatically picture London, The Queen, Big Ben, the bridge. But since I follow you (and some of your other fellows) I've started to think of Manchester as an amazing places and it makes me wonder what else we're missing from England, now each time I think of the UK I picture Manchester and that skyscraper (which I believe is called Beetham Tower, am I right?). Thank you for sharing this beautiful part of your country called Manchester which I hope someday I can visit and see all of its beauty with my own eyes, considering the way you related them in any of your photos, you make everyday an amazing job, so keep it on!

Before you started sharing images of Manchester, Tori, I had little interest in it. When I thought of England, I thought of London, Liverpool (The Beatles), Brighton (the sea, and someone I knew at University there), but I never thought 'Manchester', and now I do. The images and the history and the diversity and the neighbourhoods and the canal and the cool happenings (the Oasis exhibit/event comes to mind) and the restaurants and the cafes and the artists and the activism (Women's March). Now I can't imagine coming to England and not visiting Manchester.

I would add that your enthusiasm is infectious, your voice is unique, and your knowledge...the depths to which you dive when researching and reporting on places within the city thorough.

I started my own Instagram page a few months ago simply to share what I considered to be the best of Manchester, and after doing so I soon became familiar with the best accounts that do something similar. Yours was one of them of course and since I don't think I've found a Manchester based one which can be considered a worthy challenger. There are a fair few websites who have an IG account who post more regularly, but more often than not with an agenda to promote particular eateries, bars etc. (which I'm cool with assuming they're local businesses). But yours comes across as truly genuine and shows your fondness of the city as well as your terrific skill when telling stories/painting a picture. The "Unfold the Day" format isn't just a catchy name for the website; I think it really is reflected in each post. So as a result they're posts I actively look out for and very much enjoy reading. Also they give me inspiration for places to visit, and often ideas on ...different ways to capture photos and moments.

I can honestly tell you that for someone who's lived and grown up in Manchester you've helped me to see and understand it more clearly - details and history that were around me the whole time that I'd never properly taken in!

I was born and raised in Manchester, probably walked and cycled every street in the city centre countless times. Lived there until I was 27. However, since discovering your instagram posts, I have learnt so much about the history of places and buildings I took for granted and am discovering them anew. You posts, both text/photos and your live video posts are very informative, engaging, educating, interesting, relevant, and entertaining. You are a great ambassador for the city and all that it has to offer - the present and the past! Always love the enthusiasm you bring to each of your posts, and the amount of research and knowledge and passion that you have for the city. Long may you continue!

I had only heard about Manchester before you began posting about it and at that point it was only about Manchester United! I never realized what a lovely city it is - historically, culturally, architecturally, etc. You've brought it to life for me with your beautifully descriptive writing and perfect images as well. If I ever go to England, it is definitely one city I would like to visit, thanks completely to you.

You definitely know about Manchester's best and most historic landmarks more than I do, Tori, and I've lived here all my life. And I'm 53, so that's a very long time!! If you don't get this job I might even consider moving out of Manchester as a sign of protest!
