Unfolding 2018 | 01
Starting the week as I meant it to go on (which apparently means with wet hair), I took myself out for a Monday wander (as is my ever, I-just-can't-be-inside-for-too-long want) along the canal (when it started to rain which, surprise surprise, I wasn't prepared for, with neither a hood nor brella in tow) into the city (on Bank Holiday Monday, and purely to buy 'bits' for the evening's roast), by way of one of my favourite streets which I talk more about here.
One of the first times I’d ventured out properly for days (i.e. not just to go to a supermarket), with the best kind of excuse in meeting Joyce at HOME for a catch up. Opting for an English Breks and to longingly stare at the lump of butter not used for the wedge of bread that accompanied Joyce's soup, I came away from our natter with a smile on my face and some rather glorious (fancy-shmanz) pens of the don't-bleed-into-the-pages-of-my-Licktummy variety in my bag!
Kicking off the day with a trip to PKB with Sus, little Elizabeth (who had a hot choc that I swooned over), and Karen (first time catching up face to face, us two, since the first time we met back in June 2017) I went on to meet Jess in Grindsmith, where we spent time together chatting, and encouraging, and championing boss-lady ideas, before snapping photos in front of Great Northern, Radisson Blu, Central Library, and One St Peter’s Square. Taking advantage of their 50%-off-in-January food offer (we'd be fools not to...right?!), we visited Trof, where I opted for the turkey and smoked bacon sarnie (because, chips on the side) which turned out to be a burger...making it all the more I-wasn't-expecting-that enjoyable!
After a quiet Friday (that only saw me leave the house on a sunny day - GASP! - at 4pm to have my boots re-heeled), and a visit-to-Prestwich Saturday (starting that hunt-down-areas-to-hunt-down-houses in), Sunday (aka the day before it all was to begin) dawned bright and blue-crystal-clear of sky, beckoning me out for another one of those to-the-canal wanders that saw me with I'll-pretend-you're-not-there geese and swans ('you want to take my picture? Oh, go on then!') and quiet pathways for company, easy moments soothing wanders ahead of the try-to-cram-in-last-minute-shopping ones that weren't quite so favourable (*shakes fists at the High Street*).
- How did the first week of the new year treat you, friends?
