Geo-fleur Terrarium Workshop
Never one to call myself green-fingered (but one of those brown-thumbed human-varieties who has a tendency to forget halfway through the task of watering a plant what I’m supposed to be doing), I’m rather partial to the idea of ‘no hard work needed’ planting, making the invitation to join geo-fleur’s terrarium workshop one not all that daunting to ‘I’ll do it!’ agree to!
Held in Manchester’s newest lifestyle store, Form (No.6 Bradley Street, the row of buildings in which it’s housed of special architectural interest thanks to them representing the last surviving examples of ‘one up one down’ houses in the city), by geo-fleur’s founder Sophie, the packed-with-plants hour took us guests step-by-step through the planting of a (this is where I let Sophie down…something-named) bottle, from messy-hand soil tapping, to liberal stone decoration, and pull apart roots-ing, to hook-a-forky-prong (couldn’t quite wrap my head around it!) jabbing-in…all the technical terms!
Running the workshop in a way most relaxed, Sophie offered dissected-and-pieced back together pot-a-plant processes with a charm most approachable, sharing her cultivated knowledge (see what I tried to do there?!) in bitesize chunks digestible even by those of us (*points at self*) un-knowing of such ‘keep another thing alive’ tasks! No question was too silly, not query un-answered, and Sophie even treated us to an added bonus in our furry-friend addition, Luna!
Coming away quite literally heavy-handed (those terrarium’s are a jolly good size, I tell you!), my new botanist-buddy has pride of place between a somehow-survived lemon tree and aloe, and is…I’ve been told…self-sustainable (bar an every-so-often trickle of water) – what did I say about no hard work needed?!
